Hi World!
I am an artist based near Denver Colorado and have created art most of my life. My mother died when I was young but she left behind a couple of her art pieces that inspired both me and my sister to pursue careers in the art world. When I was in elementary school I started taking classes during the summer at the local museum and eventually decided to major in Art Education while I was at college. I taught for 5 years in the Houston Independent Public Schools District in inner city middle schools and high schools. I went on to be an art teacher substitute in the Aurora Public School District here in Colorado. I am currently an art instructor at the Arts Students League of Denver where I teach workshops to adults and summer Kids Camp for middle and high school students.
My art is a reflection of what I see and feel which I then translate into a visual medium. It could be a moment in time, a glimpse of the past, a shared experience, a noticed detail of architecture. I have several relatives that became architects and their work inspired my understanding and appreciation of how architecture affects our environments. My work often contains some or all of these things. Many of my paintings and drawings are of the Denver area where I live and work, but I also find that my travels will influence my images. Quite often my travel sketches become the basis of my oil paintings.
I have an impressionistic but representational style using traditional oils on canvas or wooden panels. Markers and pen & ink on paper are used as well.
Some of my works have been exhibited in Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. My painting "Vers le Ciel" was on loan to Senator Michael Bennett's Senate office in Washington D.C. for a year. A set of my paintings are in the corporate collection of Northwestern Life Insurance offices in Denver. Three drawings have been published in two different drawing books, 'Strokes of Genius 5' and 'Strokes of Genius 7' with North Light Books Publisher.
